The Fantasea UWL-400Q is designed to be fitted onto compact cameras with a 24mm lens and will give the camera a 120 degree field of view. The UWL-400Q has a 52mm thread which ideal for attaching it to Olympus compact housings and also comes with a 67mm thread adapter so it can be used with housings/ports that have a 67mm thread.
This version of the lens can accept an optional bayonet mount, this is the only difference from the UWL-400F version.
We think this is one of the best 'wet' wide angle lens options around right now as so many compact cameras are fitted with a 24mm lens which vignette (a black ring around the shot) when using other wide angle lenses (WAL) that are mostly designed for cameras with a 28mm lens. This lens might still vignette when attached to certain camera/housing combinations, though to a lesser extent than with the other lens options available. When using the Olympus TG-5 inside the PT-058 housing, the UWL-400Q does not vignette.
The lens is well packed and includes the following items: Neoprene dome cover, rear lens cap, EyeDaptor M67-F52 lens adaptor, secure string, microfiber cloth, O-ring remover and lens padded carrying case
Why use a wide angle lens?
Wide angle lenses allow you to get closer to your subjects whilst still fitting them within the shot. By being closer you will produce both sharper and more colourful results. Most compact cameras' angle of view drops to under fifty degrees diagonally when underwater. By attaching a wide angle lens to the housing you'll be able to remove at least half the water between you and your subject resulting in a far more vivid shot. A 'wet' wide angle lens is one that can be attached or removed when underwater.
