Trays |
Camera trays to suit a very large range of requirements can be constructed from the parts listed below.
Tray TR-D has a single ¼-20 (¼" UNC 20tpi) tripod-screw fixing and is suitable for un-housed SLR and compact cameras (i.e., use on land) and compact camera housings. It uses the slot-stay principle to prevent camera rotation, i.e., the fixing screw is captive in a slot and there is an anti-rotation ridge at the back. Two ¼-20 threaded holes on the (photographer's) left can be used to mount a dovetail shoe, T-shoe or base ball (see base adapters page). Alternatively, one of the ¼-20 holes can be fitted with handle TR-D or TR-DB, and there is a 3/8" hole which can be used with handles AC-H or AC-HQD or base ball AD-3816-2B.
Tray TR-DM is for housings which have 2-point fixing. It is supplied with #12-24 screws to fit current ikelite compact and ultra-compact housings, and ¼-20 wing screws for SeaTool, Fisheye, and Olympus PEN housings, etc. (for older ikelite housings with two protruding 3/8-16 studs, use tray
TR-IK). A 3/8" wide slot allows adjustment of handle position.
To fit handles or base adapters on the right, a
tray extension is used. Note that when using a bare camera or a small housing, part of the hand will lie below the level of the tray when in a comfortable position for operating the shutter release. For that reason, extension
TR-DUP is provided with a spacer block or 'drop-side'. For larger housings (e.g., ikelite compact, as opposed to ultra-compact), where the drop-side is not needed to obtain a comfortable hand position, short screws are provided so that the tray extender can be used without the block. Alternatively, larger housings can be used with the long extender
TR-DUPL. This has a 3/8" slot to permit handle position adjustment.
The Ultralight tray TR-D, and the tray extenders TR-DUP and TR-DUPL can also be used with the ikelite wingnut handle #9530.1. This rubberised contour-grip is recessed to prevent rotation when bolted to a 1" wide bar with a 3/8" mid-line hole or slot. ikelite makes various attachments to fit under the wingnut, or onto the 3/8-16 top stud, such as the base ball #9577.71 shown right. Alternatively, the Ultralight BA-FB spur plate will fit on the top of the ikelite handle, and can be used (e.g.) to mount a base ball such as the AD-1420-2B (see base adapters page).
Trays TR-DM and TR-IK do not fit the ikelite handle, but they can be used with the TR-DUP or TR-DUPL extenders, which do. |

Handle base adapter
AC-HB provides a mounting point for handle AC-H or AC-HQD. With the supplied screws, it attaches to housings or trays which have two ¼-20 threaded holes or sockets. It can (for example) be used to extend the length of tray TR-D on the left-hand side.
Tray TR-V is for housings which have a single ¼-20 fixing and require a relatively large distance between the mounting point and the left handle. It is primarily used with compact video cameras which have a fold-out LCD screen on the left. It has an anti-rotation ridge at the back. The 3/8" slotted region cannot be used with the ikelite handle (it is slightly too wide to fit the anti-rotation recess).
TR-LB is an L-bracket for mounting ikelite ultra-compact video housings. It can be used directly with handle TR-DH or TR-DHB, or it can be mounted on tray TR-DM to give a dual-handle or dual arm-base setup. Note that to attach a TLC dovetail shoe or other two-hole fixing base adapter, the tray extension TR-DUP is required.
